🍤 Elevated Shrimp Cocktail (Old Bay, Lemon & EVOO)

Precooked shrimp refreshed in cold Old Bay–lemon water, then finished with fresh lemon zest, a light drizzle of extra-virgin olive oil, and a final sprinkle of Old Bay. Served with a classic, zesty cocktail sauce for an easy yet elevated appetizer.

Ingredients
  

  • Shrimp
  • –2 lbs large precooked shrimp peeled and deveined, tails on
  • 1 tbsp Old Bay seasoning for soaking
  • ½ tsp Old Bay seasoning for finishing, or to taste
  • 1 lemon sliced
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 –2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil light drizzle
  • Cold water
  • Cocktail Sauce
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp prepared horseradish adjust to taste
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Dash of hot sauce optional
  • For Serving
  • Lemon wedges

Method
 

  1. Shrimp
  2. Place shrimp in a large bowl. Add cold water just to cover. Stir in Old Bay and lemon slices.
  3. Let shrimp soak for 2–3 minutes to refresh and lightly infuse with flavor.
  4. Drain shrimp well and pat completely dry with paper towels.
  5. Transfer shrimp to a serving platter. Sprinkle with lemon zest and a light dusting of Old Bay, then drizzle lightly with extra-virgin olive oil. Toss gently to coat.
  6. Cocktail Sauce
  7. In a small bowl, stir together ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce if using. Chill until ready to serve.

Notes

  • This method refreshes precooked shrimp without overcooking them.
  • Drying the shrimp well ensures they stay plump and glossy, not watery.
  • Use olive oil sparingly — just enough for shine, not grease.
