Prep the Green Beans
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Add green beans and cook 4β5 minutes until bright green and crisp-tender.
Drain and shock in ice water to stop cooking. Set aside.
Cook the Bacon & Veggies
In a large skillet, cook chopped bacon until crispy.
Remove bacon with a slotted spoon; leave 1β2 tbsp bacon grease in the skillet.
Add diced onion and cook 5β6 minutes until soft and golden.
Add garlic, thyme, and black pepper; cook 1 minute until fragrant.
Make the Creamy Swiss Cheese Sauce
Add butter to the skillet; let it melt into the onions.
Stir in flour and cook 1 minute to create a roux.
Slowly whisk in broth until smooth.
Add heavy cream, Dijon, Worcestershire, and salt.
Simmer 3β5 minutes until slightly thickened.
Remove from heat and stir in shredded Swiss + Parmesan until melted and silky.
Assemble the Casserole
Preheat oven to 375Β°F.
In a large bowl, combine the:
blanched green beans
creamy Swiss cheese sauce
crispy bacon
Transfer mixture to a 9Γ13 baking dish or deep casserole.
Mix & Add the Topping
In a medium bowl, combine:
French fried onions
panko
melted butter
(optional) extra shredded Swiss
Mix well, then sprinkle evenly over the casserole.
Bake
Bake 25β30 minutes until bubbly and golden.
For extra crisp color, broil 1 minute β watching closely.
